| ABSTRACT: Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) is the agent of a vesicular disease that affects many animal species and may be clinically confounded with foot-and-mouth disease in ruminant and swine. Horses are especially susceptible to VSV and may serve as sentinels for virus circulation. The present study investigated the presence of neutralizing antibodies against VSV Indiana III (VSIV-3) in serum samples of 3,626 horses from six states in three Brazilian regions: Southern (RS, n = 1,011), Midwest (GO/DF, n = 1,767) and Northeast (PB, PE, RN and CE, n = 848) collected between 2013 and 2014. | A two-month-old lamb showing signs of severe neurological disease characterized by muscular tremors, hypermetria, and motor incoordination was submitted to the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. At necropsy, the major findings were a marked reduction of the size of the cerebellum and bilateral dilatation of the lateral ventricles. Microscopically, areas of cellular disorganization in the cerebellar cortex, reduction of the granular layer of cerebellum associated with decreased density of cells, and the presence of large cytoplasmic vacuoles in the molecular layer were observed. | ABSTRACT: An epidemiological survey was carried out by performing an Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) test to determine the seroprevalence of Pythium insidiosum infection in equine in Rio Grande do Sul State (RS), Brazil. | Esta investigação teve por objetivo validar o teste de polarização fluorescente (TPF) para o diagnóstico sorológico da brucelose bovina, determinando a sensibilidade (SE) e a especificidade relativas (SP) e verificando a reprodutibilidade do teste em quatro laboratórios no Brasil. Foram selecionadas 1.389 amostras de soro sanguíneo, as quais foram inicialmente submetidas aos testes do antígeno acidificado tamponado (AAT) e mercaptoetanol (2-ME). As mesmas amostras foram submetidas à reação de fixação de complemento (RFC) e ao TPF.
